Hey man, Try just watching other riders. You can spot someone who is riding well easily. You will find that most all the time fast guys are standing. It's good to practice is a lot. Id say the most important thing to work on when your developing riding habits. Start out standing everywhere, till you get super comfortable and used to it. Then standing everywhere except the corners. Make sure to grip with your knees, This will not make you Ricky Charmichael overnight, but you will be saferand more comfortable on your bike once you get used to it. Just go out and have fun. The more you ride the better you will get. God luck man. and if your riding Durhamtown I would suggest the swamp track for starters.

I think the most important thing first is getting used to the bike. I didn't start riding till I was about 18. I spent about 2 years just riding trails which I think helped me tremendously. When it comes to jumps start out with tabletops that way if you come up short you aren't really in any trouble. What else helped me was taking one jump at a time and keep hitting that one jump, when you get it right move to the next one get it right and keep moving. Before too long you should be able to get a full lap hitting everything.
